Nestled in the heart of the hills, just a stone’s throw from Bologna, the Varignana Winery takes shape as an architectural project that seamlessly blends landscape, heritage and modernity. From the very beginning, the concept of the ‘Varignana dream’ has been developed with respect for the natural balance, creating a place where nature remains the protagonist and human intervention is integrated with restraint and awareness.
In this context, the winery becomes the centre of the experience: a space dedicated to promoting the local area, its traditions and its products, first and foremost wine. From an architectural perspective, the building unfolds like an amphitheatre overlooking the vineyards, set within a natural hollow previously occupied by an artificial lake. The project, realised with the expertise of Studio Ing. Torri of Imola in collaboration with architect Alessio Torri, interprets the principles of contemporary architecture in a sustainable and evocative manner.
At the same time, Biopietra cladding plays a central role, chosen to create striking textural effects through the Castel San Pietro pattern, inspired by the bricks and stones of the local tradition. In this way, the curved façade, combined with Corten steel, interacts with the undulating hills, reinforcing the relationship between architecture and landscape.
Inside, the vaulted ceiling, crafted from slender Biopietra slats, helps to create a warm and evocative atmosphere. Finally, thanks to its green building certifications, membership of the Green Building Council and contribution to LEED credits, Biopietra stands out as a key element of a project that looks to the future without forsaking its roots.
